INFORMATION FOR PRESCHOOL SCREENINGS
The NCOE Schools are conducting Child Find/Preschool screenings for 3 to 5-year-old children not yet enrolled in public schools and who will not be kindergarten eligible in the fall. The screening checks each child’s progress in hearing, vision, speech, language, and coordination skills. This will give parents a better idea of how their child is progressing at this very young age before he/she begins school. This screening program is free and parents will receive immediate feedback on how their child is developing. Head Start personnel may also be present to explain their program and services.
In April, the Child Find/Preschool Screening will be held at Presbyterian Church in Norris City on the 19th from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. On the 20th, the screening will be held in Enfield at the Christian Church from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The screening procedure takes about 45 minutes, and appointments must be made so that children do not have a long wait period. Parents should call NCO at 618-378-3212 or Booth at 618-963-2818 to make an appointment or to get more information.
Remember! The service is a free check of your child’s progress in the developmental areas, but appointments are needed. If you live in Enfield, Springerton, Omaha, or Norris City call today to make an appointment for your preschooler.

Please review the following information for Beginning Band Tryouts for NCOE and Booth Elementary.
It’s that time of the school year again to get the beginning band up and running. Beginning band is a great opportunity for your child to learn how to play an instrument and to read music. The skills your child will learn in this class will greatly impact their lives and education for years to come.
Tryouts this year are kind of last minute due to scheduling and the safety steps we must take during this time of COVID-19.
Tryouts with H&H Music will be:
When – Wednesday, September 2nd 4pm to 7pm
Where – NCOE Elementary Gymnasium and Band Room
Who – 4th and 5th Grade students
How to sign up – click on or type in this link below and sign up for a time. You DO NOT have to be there at 4, we suggest that you choose a time that best works with your schedule. We will be doing mouth pieces only and they will be cleaned and sanitized between each use.
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/904044AA9AA28A5FB6-ncoe
If you cannot make it to this meeting, your child may come see me (Mr. Neff) anytime in the next week to get signed up.
We have a very limited supply of instruments to loan out to students, so we highly recommend that you go through H&H Music to get your child an instrument. If you have any questions for me, please feel free to contact me via phone (270) 498-3630 or email at: gneff@ncoeschools.org
Did you know that only 10% of the adults are musicians, but over 70% of adults wished they had learned an instrument in their youth?

Booth Elementary: This is just a reminder that we will have an 11:00 dismissal on Friday Sept. 4th for a teacher inservice. Also, there will be no school on Monday Sept. 7th in observance of Labor Day.

April 17, 2020
Dear NCOE Parents and Community Members:
I hope this message finds you and your families safe and well. Today, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker
announced that remote learning in Illinois will be extended through the end of the 2019-20 school year.
Although in-person learning has been suspended for the remainder of the year, I assure you at NCOE, our entire staff remains committed to learning and engaging with all students through remote learning, as well as continuing with our food distribution program.
Like you, we are saddened by the reality that our school community will not be able to reconvene in person this school year due to this public health crisis. So many of you have worked so hard to learn and grow in both the classroom and in extracurricular activities that today’s announcement may feel like a step back.
However, the final chapter of this school year hasn’t been written yet. These past few weeks have proven our school community is more resilient, more capable and more compassionate than maybe what we previously realized. I’m confident our collective strength will shine through during the remainder of the school year, and we will emerge even stronger.
Having said that, today’s announcement will result in significant and multiple scheduling changes in our district. As this announcement about the end of the school year was just made by Governor Pritzker this afternoon, it will take us a few days to sort out the many schedule details that are on the books, including spring concerts, promotion, graduation, etc. Please be patient as we work as a district to get information to you in the next several weeks.
I know this is not the school year that any of us imagined, but I want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we have dealt with this unprecedented situation together. This period of Remote Learning offers us new ways to learn and grow, and out of this Pandemic, we will emerge stronger. Plans will be underway soon for the return to in-person learning next school year.
It’s important we continue to work together and support our students. I can't thank you enough for all that you are doing as we all work together through this.
Sincerely,
Matthew J Vollman, NCOE Superintendent

Whatcha Doin’ Thursday!

Dear Parents and Community Members,
If you have not done so already, we would like to encourage you to complete your 2020 Census online at www.my2020census.gov or by phone at 1-844-330-2020.
You must have your Census ID, which was mailed to each household by the U.S. Census Bureau. If you prefer to complete a paper Census, they will be mailed out by mid-April to those who have not yet responded.
The 2020 Census aims to count every individual in the United States, and that includes children. The data collected impacts many aspects of your community, including programs and services that are critical for schools, students, and younger children, such as:
• Special education, Head Start, after-school programs and classroom technology.
• Food assistance, including free and reduced-price school lunches.
• Maternal and child health programs.
Please complete your 2020 Census and help make sure our school district continues to receive adequate federal funding that will help our students grow and thrive.
Remember that if you are filling out the census for your home, you should count everyone who is living there as of April 1, 2020. That includes anyone who is living and sleeping there most of the time — that could include grandchildren, nieces, nephews and the children of friends.
Thank you for your support of our students!
Sincerely,
NCOE Schools

Congratulations to Joe Melton on making the class 1A All-South Basketball Team!!

School Closure Update, March 31, 2020:
Governor J.B. Pritzker just announced through an executive order that the stay-at-home order and school closure will extend through the month of April. School is now set to resume on May 1, 2020.
Stay safe everyone!

Important update for NCOE School closure, March 30, 2020:
https://5il.co/ecyy

March 30, 2020
Dear NCOE parents, guardians, and students:
To say this has been an unprecedented time in our world, nation, and schools is an understatement! I know many families are dealing with many issues during this current pandemic that has caused many burdens and stresses. We as a school district want to be sensitive to those issues and concerns and be a resource to help during this time. We want to help meet any need by providing the best assistance and available resources to continue your child’s education.
Gov. JB Pritzker announced that schools would be closed through April 8, 2020. He also announced that schools would have “Act of God days” until Monday, March 30, 2020. “Act of God” days are deemed non-instructional days that are not to be made up, but schools were highly encouraged to help continue meeting educational needs for students during this time.
The Illinois State Board of Education released guidance late Friday night with a plan to move forward during this school closure. This plan will start Tuesday, March 31, until school resumes as normal. This new plan is called “Remote Learning Days.” These days, like the Act of God days, will not be made up later. The difference in the days is simply this: Remote Learning Days are considered student attendance days where a continuation of learning is expected. As a result, a grade will be given to a student for their work. However, this will not be a grade in the traditional sense of an A, B, C, etc. Grades will be based on a “Pass or Incomplete” basis. Students will have the opportunity to redo, make up, or try again to complete, show progress, or attempt to complete the work if needed. There will also be flexibility regarding any work during this time period. We believe in no way that this can replace the value of your child receiving face-to-face instruction by their teachers in a traditional school setting. We are simply trying to help educate and meet the needs of your child with the limited capabilities that are available in this current crisis. However, we want to emphasize that continued progress towards learning is essential. All possible effort is highly recommended to provide your student with a continued education.
Make no mistake, our number one priority during this time is for the health, safety, and well-being of every child and family! While we believe education is of utmost importance, health and well-being comes first!
Here is a calendar of upcoming days:
• Monday, March 30 (Last Act of God Day)
• Tuesday, March 31st – Friday, April 3rd (Remote Learning Plan Days For Staff)
• Monday, April 6—Friday, April 10th (NCOE Scheduled Spring Break)
• Monday, April 13th (Remote Learning Days Begin)—If necessary and further school closure is announced by the Governor
During this time period, you should still expect to hear from your child’s teachers and administrators. Please do not hesitate to ask your teacher or administrator for any help or assistance to meet your child’s educational needs. While we are facing many instructional limitations during this time, we want to make the best effort possible for you and your child!
Finally, as a reminder, school meals are still being provided. If you are interested in a school meal during this time of school closure, please contact either Booth Elementary (963-2818) or NCO elementary (378-3212) on Monday’s or Wednesday’s to place your meal order.
Sincerely,
Matthew J Vollman, Superintendent

We ALL can use a little fun! The NCOE School District is hosting a dress up week since next week is the week before our "scheduled" spring break. Join in on the fun and share your pictures with either your teacher or with me at ccarter@ncoeschools.org.

Exciting News!
We will be celebrating a district wide Spring Fling week virtually next week (March 30-April 3). Here is how it will work. Take pic of yourself following what the theme is for that day and send it to one of your teachers (school dress code applies). You can send it to your teachers via Remind app, email, or phone if you have access to it. It will then be posted to this page! We hope to have as many students as possible participating!!!
Here is the theme days for next week.
1) Monday- Comfy/Cozy day (share a pic of you wearing pajama/jogging suit)
2) Tuesday -Pet Day (share a pic with your pet)
3) Wellness Wednesday (share a picture of how you are staying active/healthy)
4) Thursday-Whatcha Doin' Day (share a pic of a hobby, schoolwork, job, what you are reading, or project you may be working on)
5) Friday #cardinalstrong Day (share a pic of you wearing red & white-be creative!)

I was so glad to find out this morning that the teachers from Booth have made personal contact with almost all students during this time apart. If you have not heard from your child's teacher, please check your email/voicemail or class apps like Class Dojo or Remind.

School Closure Update: March 20, 2020
https://5il.co/e029

Dear Parents, Guardians, and students:
According to governor’s Pritzker’s executive order today, schools throughout the state have mandated closure until April the 8th. Due to the district’s scheduled spring break and the mandated school closure, NCOE students will now return on Monday, April 13th.
The governor also ordered that there be a “stay at home” ordinance during this same time period, limiting unnecessary activity and travel. In an effort to comply with the governor’s order, as well as protect the health and safety of as many as possible, school meals will still be available. However, these meals will now be provided on Mondays and Wednesdays with multiple day’s meals served on those days. School staff will be limited during this time as well. If you need to contact your child’s school administrator an email address can be found on the school app and website during non-staff days (Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday).
ncoeelementary@ncoeschools.org
ncoebooth@ncoeschools.org
ncoehs@ncoeschools.org
Finally, teachers will be reaching out to students and parents during this extended time off for help with supplemental educational materials.
Please continue to check the district website and app for important information and updates.
We pray for the health, safety, and well-being of all our students and community during this difficult time!
Sincerely,
Matthew J Vollman, Superintendent
